Official: Libya Announce New Coach As Amrouche Quits Four Days Before AFCONQ Vs Nigeria
Published: October 09, 2018
The Libyan Football Federation have been taken by surprise following the resignation of Adel Amrouche as coach of the Mediterranean Knights four days before they are due to face Nigeria in a crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Reports in Libya have suggested that Amrouche threw in the towel because he has not been paid for six months, and that he was mistreated along with his Algerian assistants, who have been refused payments by the LFF - telling him to pay them himself.
Amrouche has departed Libya's National Team training camp in Tunis and the Libyan Federation have moved quickly to appoint Omar Al-Miryami as the interim coach for the double-header against the Super Eagles.
It is claimed that Libyan National Team players and administrative staff earlier requested for an urgent meeting with the Chairman of the Federation, Jamal al-Jaafari, to discuss the possibility of dismissing Amrouche before their trip to Uyo, labeling his training 'random' and not useful to the team.
The 50-year-old was appointed coach of the North African country in May 2018 and was in the dugout in their goalless draw with South Africa last month.
On Adel Amrouche's curriculum vitae, he previously coached Kenya, Burundi and Equatorial Guinea national teams.
