Manchester United Legend Ferdinand Labels Ex-Super Eagles Dazzler Okocha A Magician
Published: December 02, 2018Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has labelled ex-Super Eagles star Austin Okocha a magician.
Okocha is considered one of Nigeria's greatest ever footballers and honed his skills in the Premier League playing for modest Bolton Wanderers for four years after transferring from Paris Saint-Germain.
Ferdinand acknowledged that he's a fan of Okocha and enjoyed watching the midfielder doing his thing even before he moved to England.
''Okocha was exceptional and he stood out. Back then when he was at PSG, myself and friends used to go to the extreme to buy tapes featuring him and we sat back to enjoy his displays which to us were awesome,''Ferdinand told reporters in Lagos on Saturday.
''And when he came to the Premier League, first at Bolton and then Hull City, I enjoyed him more on close quarters.''
Ferdinand went on : ''He was simply peerless as he was far ahead of his time.
''I think Nigeria is blessed to have such a wonderful ball player who was in perfect understanding of the entertainment aspect of football. Without any doubt, he was a magician.''
Rio Ferdinand was in Lagos this weekend for a series of events organized by beer brand, Guinness.
