Eagles GK Ezenwa Speaks On Quitting Enyimba, 2019 AFCON Plans, Reveals Identity Of NPFL Team He's Joining
Published: December 08, 2018
Super Eagles second choice goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa has disclosed that the need for regular game time and enhancement of his career are reasons why he is leaving Enyimba FC of Aba.
"I needed to play regularly. Its a very important decision in my career. Although I had a good time at Enyimba but as a player you have your decisions to make and I've taken the decision to play for Katsina United," Ezenwa said.
Interestingly Ezenwa did stress that the agreement with Katsina United is a verbal agreement with nothing official finalised.
"The deal has not been done but Ikechukwu Ezenwa is there to play for Katsina United in 2019. There is a possibility to play in Europe, its just a (verbal) discussion that I had with them (Katsina United) that they're interested in having me play for them and I said yes, I'm going to play for them.
"A man must have a plan B. As I'm talking to you Ikechukwu Ezenwa is a free agent and I'm looking forward to moving on with my career in Europe and I know that if I'm to play in the NPFL in 2019, it has to be for Katsina United.
Speaking on the Super Eagles and their chances to conquer Africa next year, Ezenwa who stood in between the post for Nigeria in the 2019 AFCON qualifier against South Africa on November 17 took a cautious route.
"I feel great playing in the team that qualified Nigeria for the World Cup and the AFCON because its something that makes me happy.
"We've not been there in the last two editions of the Nations Cup and now we've qualified. We're going to take it one at a time because everybody wants to reach the final of the tournament.
"Its a new format with 24 teams so we hope to make Nigerians proud," Ezenwa concluded.
