FAYC: Chelsea Send SOS To Goalscoring Nigerian Midfielder Ahead Of Trip To Man Utd
Published: December 17, 2018
Poole-born Nigerian midfielder Faustino Anjorin has not featured for Chelsea U18 team for more than five weeks now, with his last appearance coming against Newcastle United in the U18 Premier League Cup.
The England U18 international has more or less been promoted to the U23 team given that he has played more games for that age group in recent months.
Ahead of Monday evening's tie at Leigh Sports Village, Chelsea U18 boss Andy Myers has confirmed that Anjorin will be recalled to provide a helping hand to the team for their FA Youth Cup clash against an in-form Manchester United side, who have not lost a game in all competitions for more than three months.
''It’s a massive boost to be able to call on four or five players from the development squad but it’s not always easy when they have a game of their own on the same night so we’re grateful that the likes of Billy, Tariq, Tino and Daishawn can be involved,'' Myers told Chelsea's official website.
''It does improve the squad but we also know the old saying that paper teams win paper prizes so although they’re all good players, we still have to make sure we all perform on the night.
''The fortunate thing for us is the players are already really integrated and it’s easy from a coaching perspective because they’re all so focused on this competition.''
Anjorin, who scored in last season's FA Youth Cup final against Arsenal, has tallied 10 goals in all competitions for Chelsea's youth teams this term.
