The inaugural edition of the U-16 Copa Coca Cola Championship was held in Nairobi, Kenya and the hosts defeated Nigeria 3-2 in the final after a scoreless draw in regulation time. The Nigerian side had beaten Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana on their way to the final.

Nigeria's amputee football team took part in the 2018 Amputee World Cup held in Mexico after three failed attempts in the past due to financial constraints.

The NFF insisted that clubs who were to participate in the Super 8 promotion race must participate in the Super 8 despite some of the clubs having informed their state governments that they have already been promoted to the top flight.

16. Nigeria Qualify For 2019 AFCON

Nigeria booked their place at  the 2019 AFCON to be hosted by either Egypt or South Africa June 7-30, 2019 after wins over Libya and a draw against South Africa.


17.  Nigeria's Reps In CAF Club Competitions Reduced

Due to Nigeria's low coefficient ranking, clubs representing the country in the CAF club competitions were reduced from two apiece to one in the Champions League and Confederation Cup but Enyimba's semifinals run in the Confederation Cup.

Lobi and Enugu Rangers have been impressive so far in both competitions and could help to restore the two teams.

The Super Eagles finished the year as the 4th best ranked team in Africa and 44th in the world.
