Liverpool 5 Arsenal 1 : Impressive Iwobi Provides Assist; No Record For Saka
Published: December 29, 2018
Liverpool have gone nine points clear at the summit of the Premier League standings following their 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday evening.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was arguably the most impressive player on the Arsenal side and went the distance while Bukayo Saka's quest to break the record of becoming the youngest player of Nigerian descent to feature in the Premier League ended today after he failed to come off the bench.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles gave Unai Emery's side the lead in the 11th minute after he was picked out by Iwobi.
In a flash, Liverpool scored twice through Roberto Firmino, the Brazilian capitalizing on two mistakes by the Arsenal defense in the space of ninety seconds.
The home team extended their lead through Sadio Mane in the 32nd minute and they were out of sight in first half stoppage time when Mohamed Salah dusted himself down before converting a spot kick after he was fouled in the box.
Arsenal had a 4-1 deficit to try and claw back in the second half and their problems were compounded when
Firmino bagged his hat-trick from the spot after Sead Kolasinac nudged Dejan Lovren in the area with 25 minutes remaining.
