Liverpool's Babajide Wins WSL Goal Of The Week After Backing From Super Falcons Captain
Published: April 25, 2019
Liverpool FC Women striker Rinsola Babajide has won the Goal of the Week award for game week 20 in the FA Women's Super League.
The England youth international of Nigerian parentage stole the headlines after netting her first career hat-trick for Liverpool in their 5-2 rout of Bristol City on April 21, and one of the goals was nominated for the award.
Babjide's thumping left-footed finish was shortlisted for the Goal of the Week along with goals from Reading's Rachel Furness, Liverpool's Ashley Hodson and Arsenal poster girl Vivianne Miedema.
In the Twitter poll, 45 percent of respondents voted for Babajide while 35 percent went for Miedema, who has directly contributed to 30 goals for the Gunners in the WSL this season.
Nigerian Federation Women's Player of the Year and Super Falcons captain, Onome Ebi offered moral support to the Liverpool number 20 when the shortlist was announced on April 23 by urging her 7,300+ followers on Twitter to vote for her.
Babajide's other goal in this season's WSL was against Brighton & Hove in September 2018.
