'It Was A Slight Surprise' - Tomori Wows Lampard With Outrageous 35-Yard Strike
Published: September 14, 2019
Manager Frank Lampard has admitted that he was pleasantly surprised to see Fikayo Tomori score for Chelsea as they hammered Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-2 in the Premier League on Saturday.
The England U21 star broke the deadlock with an outrageous strike from 35 yards out in the 31st minute, his first strike for the London club after four appearances in all competitions.
Against Wolves, Lampard found a way of accommodating Tomori in the starting line-up despite the return of first choice central defender Antonio Rüdiger and he repaid the manager's faith with an impressive showing.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Lampard told reporters : ''It was a slight surprise. The confidence since he has come back from Derby is great to see. It is great for him. They must continue that.
''I hope they have the competitiveness. We look at those players, that’s how I would be. They should see their teammates like that and hoping to continue.''

Tomori enjoyed loaned spells at Brighton & Hove, Hull City and Derby County, before he was promoted to Chelsea's first team in the new season.
