Three Nigeria-Eligible Strikers Named In Manchester United Squad For Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup
Published: January 03, 2020Three Nigeria-eligible players have been named to the Manchester United squad for the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup indoor tournament in Germany, informs the official website of the Red Devils.
Dillon Hoogewerf, Shola Shoretire and Deji Sotona are the players classed as strikers on the 12-man roster announced on Thursday, January 2.
Hoogewerf represents the Netherlands U17 team, Shoretire captained England U16 in 2019 and Sotona has played non-binding games for Republic of Ireland youth teams.
The three teenagers have scored five goals combined in the U18 Premier League this season.
United will face off with Stuttgart, Porto and Borussia Monchengladbach in Group B while Group A is made up of Eintracht Frankfurt, Rangers, Red Bull Leipzig and Rapid Vienna.
The group stages will be played on Saturday 4 January, with the finals staged on the following day.
Nigeria are one of the five African countries to have featured in the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup in the past.
