'He Was Desperate To Score Against Man Utd' - Watford Captain On Ighalo's Move To Old Trafford
Published: February 06, 2020
Watford captain Troy Deeney was delighted to see his former teammate and onetime strike partner Odion Ighalo seal a shock move to Manchester United on transfer deadline day.
Deeney recollected that Ighalo was desperate to score when they faced the Red Devils at Old Trafford during the 2015-2016 season in the Premier League and admitted that he lashed out at the former Nigeria international for being selfish.
Three of Ighalo's 15 goals in the English top-flight that season came against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool (2) while his deflected strike against Chelsea was taken away from him and recorded as a Gary Cahill own goal by the dubious goals panel.
"When we played Manchester United [in 2015/16] he built up this thing where he felt he had to score, especially after scoring against Liverpool before that," said Deeney to Sky Sports.
"He had about 19 shots in that game. He was desperate to score against United. He probably should have passed to me for one of them, and we could have won!
"I told him to calm down before the game, I wasn't so nice after the game! We laugh about it ever since. I wish him all the best."

Manchester United's brand new number 25, Ighalo is in line to make his competitive debut in a mouthwatering clash against Chelsea on February 17.
