Teenage Striker Eligible For Nigeria Named In Bayern's Traveling Squad To Face Chelsea
Published: February 24, 2020
The 18-year-old striker Joshua Zirkzee is in contention to suit up for Bayern Munich when they face Chelsea in a UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Manager Hans-Dieter Flick has named the Netherlands U19 international of Nigerian descent in his traveling squad to the English capital.
Bayern's 19-man roster contains seventeen outfield players, meaning it is not a foregone conclusion that Zirkzee will make the finalized matchday 18 as one player will be axed at least 75 minutes before the start of the game.
The other attack-minded players in the traveling party to London are Thomas Müller, Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry and Philippe Coutinho.
Zirkzee has been fully promoted to Bayern Munich's first team thanks to his imperious displays for their youth teams and has been listed in the matchday squad for each of their last nine matches in the Bundesliga.
The former Feyenoord super kid made his Champions League debut against Tottenham Hotspur in December 11, 2019, coming off the bench in the 86th minute to replace Ivan Perisic.
That same month, he received a lot of media attention at home and abroad after his goalscoring heroics in back-to-back matches against Freiburg and Wolfsburg.
