Chelsea GK Adegoke On Strengths & Weaknesses; Emulating Anjorin; Cites Cech As Role Model
Published: March 20, 2020
Chelsea goalkeeper Prince Adegoke has opted to remain at Stamford Bridge ahead of next season as he fancies his chances of breaking into the first team in the coming years.
Another talented goalkeeper of Nigerian parentage, Kelechi Chibueze has been usurped as Chelsea U16s first choice shot stopper by Adegoke, who was invited to a Golden Eaglets get-together in Abuja ahead of the 2019 World Cup.
It is understood that the 2003-born Adegoke has signed a scholarship deal with Chelsea with effect from July 1 and will be officially promoted to the U18 team next season.
"My motivation is always to be successful in whatever I commit myself and also the coaches have been very supportive in improving my technique," Adegoke said to allnigeriasoccer.com.
"The success has been good at times where we have all bonded as a team and work hard for our teammates."
Adegoke, who is still learning the trade, has identified his strengths and weaknesses, and cited Chelsea legend Petr Cech as his role model.
"As a goalkeeper my strength is my agile and quick reflexes with the advantage of my height and constant training on other aspects I need to improve on.
"Football has no perfectionist but presently I'm working with the coach to improve my ball distribution.
"My role model will be Petr Cech, I like the way he uses his leg and his reflexes,'' Adegoke added.
Adegoke was delighted to see Faustino Anjorin make his Premier League debut for Chelsea this month and he wants to follow in the footsteps of the talented midfielder.
"As a goalkeeper I am always positive and I believe in myself that when the opportunity arises I will rise up to the challenge.
"I have been nursing the dream of playing in the first team since I came to Chelsea.
"Yes, obviously I was happy to see Anjorin make his debut. I've got to work hard and strive for that opportunity,'' he concluded.
