West Ham United U23s Goal Of The Season So Far : Afolayan's Strike Shortlisted
Published: April 24, 2020
Dapo Afolayan is among the nominees for West Ham U23s Goal of the Season so far in the 2019-2020 season, the official website of the Hammers has reported.
Joining the Nigerian attacker on the shortlist of goals are strikes from Mesaque Dju, Amadou Diallo, Alfie Lewis, Joe Powell, Nathan Holland (2), Xande Silva, Bernardo Rosa and Dan Kemp.
Afolayan has been nominated for his 8th minute strike against Derby County in the quarterfinal of the Premier League International Cup on March 10, a game West Ham went on to win on penalties following a 3-3 stalemate after extra-time.
On his goal, they wrote : "You're unlikely to see a faster start than Oladapo Afolayan's in West Ham's first ever Premier League International Cup quarter-final; after already scoring after five minutes, the striker doubled that advantage just three minutes later with this clever turn and strike."
Since joining West Ham in February 2018, Afolayan has enjoyed loan spells at Oldham Athletic and Mansfield Town.
The former Chelsea youth-teamer has been involved in 7 goals (3 goals, 4 assists) in eight games for the Hammers in the Premier League 2 this term.
