Nigeria U23 Invitee To Miss Midtjylland's Potential Title-winning Match Vs FC Copenhagen
Published: July 08, 2020
Nigeria U23 invitee Frank Onyeka will not be available for selection when Midtjylland take on FC Copenhagen in a potential title-winning match at the MCH Arena on Thursday evening, and this is official.
The holding midfielder was dismissed for a second bookable offense in the 95th minute of The Wolves 1-0 victory against Nordsjælland on Sunday, July 5.
Onyeka was first yellow carded in the 39th minute, then was given his marching orders by referee Aydin Uslu after an altercation with FC Nordsjælland player Mads Døhr Thychosen, who was also given a yellow card.
Midtjylland had appealed to the Danish Football Union's Disciplinary Body to overturn the second yellow card shown to the Nigerian but it was not rescinded, so he won't be able to play tomorrow against FC Copenhagen, the DBU said in a press release on Wednesday.
Five matches to the end of the Superliga season, Midtjylland will be crowned champions for only the third time in their history if they avoid defeat against their nearest challengers.
Though Onyeka has impressed this season, he has had disciplinary problems on the pitch, having accumulated ten yellow cards from his 31 appearances in all competitions.
