'He's Almost The Definition Of YPOTY Winner' - English Pundit Stunned Saka Was Overlooked For Award
Published: August 07, 2020
English football broadcaster Sam Matterface is stunned that Arsenal wonderkid Bukayo Saka has been overlooked for the English Premier League 2019-2020 Young Player of the Season award despite the winger's breakout season.
Four Manchester United 'youngsters' in Dean Henderson, Anthony Martial Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood feature on the eight-man shortlist along with Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount (both Chelsea), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool).
Matterface believes that Saka should have been included on the YPOTY shortlist after helping Arsenal reach the FA Cup final and was the club's top assist provider in the recently concluded season.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said : "18 years of age, in your first breakthrough season making 38 appearances in all competitions and having more assists for your club than anybody else in the first team squad.
"Getting to an FA Cup final, scoring important goals in the process, being involved in important performances in the process and not being on this list.
"I'm so surprised that Saka isn't on it. He's made a fantastic impact this season.
"He's almost the definition of a Young Player of the Year award winner".

Bukayo Saka was nominated for Arsenal's Player of the Season accolade but was voted third in the poll.
