Super Eagles Star Ndidi Operates As A Central Defender In First Pre-season Game For Leicester
Published: September 05, 2020
Wilfred Ndidi made his first appearance of the pre-season as Leicester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Blackburn Rovers at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Nigeria national-teamer was not involved in the goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday last weekend because he was undergoing medical isolation following his return to England from holiday.
Against the Championship opponents today, Ndidi was named in the starting lineup and partnered Josh Knight in the centre of defence.
Predominantly a holding midfielder, he is not new to the central defensive position having played a similar role during his time with Racing Genk and for the Nigeria U17 and U20 national teams in the past.
Ghana international Amartey broke the deadlock when he headed home from a corner in the 66th minute but Williams, on 80 minutes, cancelled out his effort.
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho replaced Jamie Vardy in the closing 20 minutes, his second appearance in pre-season, while Ndidi subbed out on 62 minutes.
Bredan Rodgers' side will play their first competitive match of the new season against Semi Ajayi's West Brom on Sunday, September 13.
