PAOK Mulling Over Move For Liverpool Striker Awoniyi As Replacement For Middlesbrough-Bound Akpom
Published: September 18, 2020
Greek giants PAOK Thessaloniki have reignited their interest in Liverpool-owned striker Taiwo Awoniyi, more than two years after missing out on his signature.
According to Sport Time Greece, PAOK were mulling over a move for the former Nigeria U23 international but it appears the Thessaloniki-based club are lagging behind Union Berlin in the race for his services.
PAOK are in the market for a striker as a replacement for Chuba Akpom who is close to returning to England to link up with Middlesbrough.
If PAOK follow up their interest in Awoniyi, the 2013 U17 World Cup winner could be featuring in this season's Champions League, with the Greek side through to the playoff round where they face Krasnodar.
Akpom's name has been omitted from PAOK's Champions League roster ahead of the game against the Russian club next week.
Awoniyi has been spotted training with Liverpool's first teamers ahead of a departure from Anfield before the close of the summer transfer window.
