Arsenal first team manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that highly-rated striker of Nigerian descent Folarin Balogun has a future at the club amid speculation linking him with a departure from the Emirates Stadium.
The England U20 international was handed his first team debut by Arteta in Thursday night's 3-0 rout of Dundalk in the Europa League and it's further proof that he's knocking on the first team door.
Balogun caught Arteta's eye after excelling for the Gunners U21 and U23 sides, scoring three goals in six appearances in the new season.
On Balogun and if there's any news on a new contract, Arteta told Arsenal's official website : "He's a player that I really like.
"Obviously I've got this situation and I believe it's later than what I would like because I wasn't here when everything started to develop but yes, he's a player that I would like to give chances to.
"That's why he was in the squad today and I showed him that yes, we count on him and we believe in him and if he wants, he's going to have a future in the club."
Balogun, whose parents were born in Nigeria, has a contract with Arsenal until June 30, 2021.
