'My Ultimate Ambition Remains To Get My Full Chance At Chelsea' - Ugbo Targets Blues First Team
Published: November 23, 2020
Former England U17 international of Nigerian descent Ike Ugbo is hoping that his brilliant form over the last two seasons will eventually lead to a first team breakthrough at Chelsea.
Ugbo has scored 20 goals combined for both Roda JC and Cercle Brugge in 39 appearances across all competitions.
Since joining Chelsea at U10 level he has yet to make his competitive debut for the Stamford Bridge outfit but regularly trains with the first team and featured in a friendly vs Bohemians in July 2019.
Ugbo has confirmed that Chelsea loan coaches have been monitoring his performances since his switch to Cercle Brugge.
"After every game there is contact with people from Chelsea, who let me know how they thought my performance," Ugbo said to HLN.
"It is also very important for me to know that Paul Clement believes in me. His presence at Cercle was one of the main reasons why I chose to loan to this club."
He added : "I do like those one-season loans, always ending up in a new environment and you have to prove it.
"But my ultimate ambition remains to one day get my full chance at Chelsea and be able to play football at Stamford Bridge.
"I've been there since I was nine and have always dreamed of breaking through."
A prolific scorer during his time with Chelsea's youth teams, Ugbo inked a new deal with the London club before heading out on loan in August 2020.
