Arsenal's Akinola Reveals He Supported Man Utd As A Child; Best Player He's Faced
Published: December 17, 2020
Arsenal's Nigerian-born central midfielder Tim Akinola answered questions relating to his career from Arsenal Matchday Programmme's Aidan Small before the visit of Southampton to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The 19-year-old admitted that he supported Manchester United as a child but stressed that signing for Arsenal has been the best moment of his career so far.
Strangely, Arsenal's 3-3 draw with Manchester United on October 17 is the only game he has missed in the Premier League 2 since his celebrated move to the Gunners.
He picked Ronaldo as the first footballer he looked up to, then Zidane and Vieira after and a half volley with his weaker foot from outside the box as the best goal he has ever scored.
On the best player he has faced, Akinola said : "Morgan Rogers, Now at Man City, but I played against him when he was at West Brom. I've never seen a player single-handedly destroy a whole team by himself".
Akinola, who is also good at badminton and athletics, chose Robert Lewandowski as the player to score a one-on-one to save his life.
He hinted that he would be open to representing England internationally by revealing that England 2010 World Cup shirt is the favorite football shirt he has owned.
Akinola has been invited by manager Mikel Arteta to train with Arsenal's first team several times this season.
