Six Players Of Nigerian Descent Feature, Balogun Missing As Arsenal Lose To Manchester City PL2
Published: February 19, 2021
Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo was impressive for the second consecutive game in the Premier League 2 but could not prevent Arsenal from losing 2-0 to Manchester City at Meadow Park on Friday night.
As for team news, manager Steve Bould handed starts to three other players of Nigerian descent namely Ryan Alebiosu, Daniel Oyegoke and Tim Akinola while Sam Edozie and Felix Nmecha played the full game for Manchester City.
Liam Delap's double either side of half-time secured a win for Manchester City.
He guided an effort into the bottom corner to open the scoring in the 15th minute then doubled the advantage two minutes after the restart when he smashed home.
Okonkwo made two big saves to deny Nmecha and Delap from increasing the lead in the closing minutes.
Folarin Balogun, who was not included in Arsenal's matchday squad against Benfica in the Europa League, was not involved against City amid speculation linking him with an exit from his boyhood club in the summer.
Left-back Tolaji Bola, back from a loan spell at Rochdale, was a non-playing substitute against the Citizens.
