Sadiq Umar scores 20th league goal to help Almeria qualify for LaLiga 2 playoffs
Published: May 24, 2021
Almeria have qualified for the Spanish LaLiga 2 playoffs courtesy of their 2-1 win against UD Logroñés at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos (Almería) on Monday night.
Heading into the final round of the regular season, The Rojiblancos are fourth in the table with 70 points, five more than seventh-placed Sporting Gijon, whom they face next.
Former Nigeria U23 international Sadiq Umar opened the scoring in the second minute, taking his tally to 20 league goals in the process.
The number 9 stretched his leg and tapped home from close range after a great ball through from Manu Morlanes.
Referee Francisco Hernández signaled a penalty in the 44th minute when Almeria winger Ramazani went behind the defenders and Andoni López committed a foul.
Sadiq had the opportunity to make it 3-0 but missed the penalty, sending the ball totally out of goal.
The 24-year-old was successful from the spot in previous matches against CD Tenerife and Real Oviedo.
