Watford pull out of race to sign Chelsea's Nigerian striker
Published: June 26, 2021Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Watford have pulled out of the race to sign Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo in the summer transfer window.
Watford thought they had a good chance of signing the Chelsea-owned striker due to their relationship with his bona fide agent Collins John, who turned out for the Hornets during his playing career, but they are set to miss out on his signature.
The Premier League newcomers have already confirmed the signings of two center forwards in Ashley Fletcher and Emmanuel Dennis ahead of the start of pre-season preparations, while Isaac Success, Andre Gray, Ismaïla Sarr and Troy Deeney are other options in attack.
Ugbo had been lined up as a possible replacement for Senegal national teamer Sarr who was rumored to be joining Liverpool.
Apart from Eintracht Frankfurt and Racing Genk, other unnamed clubs have recently expressed interest in signing Ugbo on a permanent deal.
The former England U17 star spent last season on loan at Cercle Brugge and chipped in with 16 league goals to help The Green and Black avoid relegation.
Despite being contracted for one more season, Ugbo sees his future away from Stamford Bridge due to a lack of first team opportunities.
