The Super Eagles have arrived in Bissau ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Guinea-Bissau, following their 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in their opening Group L fixture.
The Super Eagles arrived in Bissau on Sunday evening, landing at the Aeroporto Internacional Osvaldo Vieira as preparations continued for their next assignment.
The team’s trip came less than 48 hours after they secured three points against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Super Eagles had to come from behind against Madagascar, with Ehsan Kari putting the visitors ahead before debutant George Ilenikhena equalised in first-half stoppage time.
Moses Usor then completed the comeback in the 65th minute to give Eric Chelle’s side a winning start.
Guinea-Bissau will provide a different challenge after the Djurtus also opened their qualifying campaign with a victory.
They defeated Tanzania 2-0 away from home, with Franculino Djú scoring in the first half before Mama Baldé doubled their advantage after the interval.
The result means Guinea-Bissau currently lead Group L on goal difference, with Nigeria also on three points.
Tanzania are already assured of a place at the 2027 Afcon as one of the co-hosts, leaving Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar competing for the qualifying position available to the highest-ranked non-host nation in the group.
Tuesday’s encounter is scheduled for the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau, with kick-off set for 5pm Nigerian time.
