Done deals : Young Chelsea and Liverpool central defenders join Newcastle United
Published: June 30, 2021With a statement on their official website, Newcastle United have announced the signings of promising youngsters Charlie Wiggett and Remi Savage from Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.
The two central defenders will initially link up with the Magpies U23s team , as recommended by Interim Academy Manager Steve Harper.
Born in Reading, Wiggett is departing Stamford Bridge a year after signing his first professional contract.
A player with leadership qualities, the 18-year-old captained Chelsea U18s several times in last season's U18 Premier League.
The 19-year-old Savage departs Liverpool after fourteen years having joined the Merseyside club at the age of five,
He made his debut for Liverpool U18s during the 2017-2018 season whilst still a schoolboy and was a member of the squad that won the FA Youth Cup the following season, before signing his first professional contract last summer.
Savage, who can also be deployed as a left-back, was involved in 21 matches for Liverpool youth teams in 2020-2021.
