Super Eagles star opens account for Premier League new boys against six-time La Liga champions
Published: August 07, 2021English Premier League new boys Brentford rounded off their pre-season schedule with an impressive 2-1 win over six-time La Liga champions Valencia at Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday.
Summer signing from FC Midtjylland, Frank Onyeka, who missed a large part of pre-season preparations, stepped up his fitness with valuable minutes under his belt.
Prior to today's fixture, the Super Eagles star played the last half an hour in the 2-2 draw versus Manchester United and played the whole of the first half in the loss to West Ham United last weekend.
Diego Lopez broke the deadlock when he slotted a shot into the near post after latching onto Hugo Guillamón's long ball in the 30th minute.
Ethan Pinnock brought the Bees back on level terms when he rose highest and thumped home a header from eight yards following a corner kick at minute 64.
Twenty minutes from time, Onyeka netted his first goal in Brentford's colours, firing into the bottom corner after a cross was poorly cleared by the Valencia defence.
Having come through today's game unscathed, the Super Eagle should be in contention to make his competitive debut for Brentford when they face Arsenal in the Premier League curtain-raiser on Friday, August 13.
