2001-born winger Azeez reacts after making full Championship debut for Reading
Published: August 09, 2021
Reading manager boss Veljko Paunovic handed a full Championship debut to Nigeria-eligible winger Femi Azeez as the Royals began their campaign in the second-tier with a 3-2 loss to Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday, August 7.
Femi, who is the older brother of Arsenal wonderkid Miguel Azeez, had made his senior debut for Reading prior to the visit to Stoke City, playing the last minute of their 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on March 6, 2021.
Playing on the right wing and sporting the number 30 jersey, Femi Azeez was on parade for 88 minutes before making way for Thomas Holmes.
On his starting debut for Reading, he put in an encouraging performance and was involved in the build-up to the goal netted by John Swift in the 26th minute.
The 2001-born Azeez is close to cracking Reading's first team after catching the eye in pre-season and finishing the 2020-2021 campaign as the club's top scorer in the Premier League 2 with 10 goals from seventeen appearances.
Reacting to his full Championship debut, Azeez posted on Instagram : "Amazing to have made my full Championship debut, disappointing result but we keep working".
Azeez joined Reading from non-league club Wealdstone FC in September 2019.
