Nigeria-eligible PSV sensation wants to emulate Saka and feature for England in 2022 World Cup
Published: August 10, 2021
PSV Eindhoven teenage sensation Nonso Madueke wants to follow in the footsteps of Bukayo Saka and represent England's senior team.
Saka was heavily courted by Nigeria Football Federation and manager Gernot Rohr before he became cap-tied to his country of birth.
The Arsenal winger went on to star for the Three Lions at the 2020 European Championship this summer, playing four matches during the tournament including the showpiece vs Italy.
Madueke, a current England U21 international, is backing himself to break into the senior side and is targeting a spot in Gareth Southgate's squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
This is not wishful thinking as the Anglo-Nigerian has been in brilliant form since making his professional debut for PSV, contributing 13 goals and nine assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.
Madueke is a player of interest to the Nigeria Football Federation but a change of association has to be granted by FIFA before he can turn out for the Super Eagles as he has played competitive matches for the Young Lions.
"There’s been no contact at the moment from them. The time for those decisions to be made I don’t think is now," Madueke told The Sun UK.
He added : You never know how football goes. I try to take every day as it comes. My bread and butter is my club.
"If I’m winning games with my club, if I could be at the World Cup in 15 months, it would be great."

London-born Madueke took the risk of moving abroad to actualize his dream of playing first-team football, turning down scholarships at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United prior to joining PSV in 2018.
