Rangers' German-born Super Eagles star congratulates Rudiger on reaching Chelsea milestone
Published: August 12, 2021
When Antonio Rudiger stepped out onto to the Windsor Park turf on Wednesday night for the UEFA Super Cup clash between Chelsea and Villarreal, the Germany international reached a milestone for the Champions League holders.
Signed from AS Roma four years ago, it was the central defender's 150th appearance in a Chelsea shirt since making his competitive debut against Arsenal in the Community Shield back in August 2017.
99 games in the Premier League, 16 in the FA Cup, 9 in the League Cup, 2 in the Community Shield, 19 in the Champions League, 4 in the Europa League and one in the Super Cup took him to his latest milestone for Chelsea.
Rudiger took to Instagram to celebrate reaching 150 appearances for Chelsea, posting : "1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ games for @ChelseaFC - it’s gone really quick - Thanks for everyone’s support along the way. Great to celebrate this number with an international title".
Glasgow Rangers defender Leon Balogun was among several players that responded to Rudiger's post.
The Super Eagles star and Rudiger share the same birthplace, Berlin the capital of Germany, but the Chelsea ace opted to represent his country of birth at international level while Balogun picked Nigeria, where his father originally hails from.
Reacting to Rudiger's post, Balogun used emojis to congratulate the Chelsea number 2, "🙌🏽🥇".
