EFL League One club interested in signing Arsenal's Nigerian defender
Published: August 23, 2021EFL League One club Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing versatile Arsenal defender of Nigerian descent Ryan Alebiosu.
The Roker Report Podcast says Sunderland are in for Alebiosu and at this stage only talks have taken place and no offer has been made.
Arsenal have made Alebiosu available for loan and he could be heading to the Black Cats who have close links with his agent, Roberto De Fanti.
The Italian-born intermediary was Director of Football at Sunderland before he founded London-based football agency RDF Football Ltd.
Aged 19, Alebiosu has yet to make his senior debut for the Gunners but has trained with the first team on multiple occasions.
Predominantly a right back, he is comfortable playing as a right wing-back and can also play in midfield.
Last summer, he signed his first professional contract with his boyhood club, a two-year deal, with Arsenal holding an option to extend by a further two years.
Alebiosu made 18 appearances for Arsenal U23s in the Premier League 2 last term and went the distance in three games for the U21s in the EFL Trophy.
