Ex-Nigeria U17 invitee suffers third loss as a Derby youth teamer after leaving Glasgow Rangers
Published: October 03, 2021
Ex-Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei was named in the starting line-up as Derby County U18s suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat at the hands of national champions Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
Ebiowei, a former Arsenal schoolboy, ended his one-and-a-half-year affiliation with Glasgow Rangers in September after inking a one-season deal with The Rams.
Before the visit of Manchester City U18s to Moor Farm Training Centre, the Anglo-Dutch-Nigerian attacking midfielder had played two games for Derby County's youth teams.
Ebiowei started Derby County's 3-0 loss to Newcastle United in the U18 Premier League on September 11 and entered the game as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League 2 on September 27.
His former teammate at Glasgow Rangers, Adedire Awokoya Mebude, the younger brother of Watford-owned striker Dapo, helped Manchester City run out comfortable winners, scoring one goal and assisting two others after eleven minutes in the first half.
Ebiowei, who has represented Netherlands and England at youth level, was named in Nigeria's 25-man provisional squad for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup.
He shares the same agent as Super Eagles stars Joe Aribo, Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina and Terem Moffi.
