'He's also preparing for Nigeria' - Yigit backs Osimhen to play key role for club and country
Published: October 24, 2025
Now Spor commentator Veli Yigit has expressed confidence that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is on track to deliver his best-ever campaign, surpassing his remarkable performance from last season.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan last term, scored 37 goals and provided eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions, helping the Istanbul giants clinch a domestic double.
His blistering form also saw him break Mario Jardel's long-standing record for the most goals scored by a foreign player in a single Turkish football season, a record Jardel had set during the 2000/2001 campaign with 34 goals.
Yiğit noted that Osimhen has entered a new level of maturity and performance this season.
"Osimhen has unlocked his updated prime mode. When the season is over, everyone will probably say, 'This was Osimhen's best season yet," Yigit was quoted as saying by Habersarikirmizi.
He believes the Nigerian international is in peak mental and physical condition to play a pivotal role in helping both Galatasaray and Nigeria achieve their respective goals.
"He's mentally very focused, physically very strong, and completely focused on helping his club succeed internationally. And let's not forget he's also preparing for Nigeria," he added.
The Super Eagles striker has carried his fine form into the new campaign, scoring five goals in eight matches across all competitions.
He has already begun setting new milestones, becoming the first Galatasaray player to score in seven consecutive European games following his brace against Bodo/Glimt.
Osimhen also made history in midweek, recording Galatasaray's fastest goal in UEFA Champions League history with his opener just two minutes and 53 seconds into their clash at Rams Park.
With his current trajectory, Osimhen is on track to rewrite the record books by the end of the season.
