Has Bonke played last league game for Malmo? Midfielder comments on future after winning title
Published: December 05, 2021
The future of Innocent Bonke at Malmo is up in the air with his contract set to run out at the end of this month.
The Nigeria international monitored proceedings from the stands on Saturday as Malmo played out a goalless draw with Halmstads BK to retain the Allsvenskan title on the final day of the 2021 season.
Malmo have held initial talks with Bonke over a contract extension but discussions are not moving in the right direction, meaning he could be leaving the club as a free agent in the coming weeks.
The Super Eagles midfielder has admitted that he is unsure of extending his stay at Malmo beyond 2021.
Commenting on his contract situation, Bonke said to Fotbollskanalen : "Right now I do not know. We talk and we get to see how we complete everything.
"If they go right, I will stay here, but for the moment we will see what happens in the future. If I do not stay, it will be an honor to have played here.
"It's been a great season in a great club and we'll see what happens. In any case, I'm happy here and have a contract".
Former Lillestrom ace Bonke is credited with 91 appearances for Malmo across four and a half seasons, logging 5,478 minutes.
