Red Star Belgrade's Nigerian striker reveals Rangers danger man Morelos will be closely watched
Published: March 09, 2022Red Star Belgrade are well aware of the threat Alfredo Morelos poses before Thursday night's Europa League round of 16 first leg clash at Ibrox Stadium and the Colombia striker will be closely monitored during the game in a bid to try to prevent him from wreaking havoc.
Morelos has remained a key player for Rangers this season despite speculation over his long-term future at the club, scoring eighteen goals in all competition, including five in Europe.
Red Star Belgrade have made a key addition to their Europa League squad, bringing in Oslo-born Nigerian goal poacher Ohi Omoijuanfo, who tallied an astonishing 27 goals in his final season at Molde to win the Norwegian Eliteserien top scorer award before completing his move to Red Star Belgrade in January 2022.
Winning their last five games in the Serbian Super Liga means Red Star Belgrade will be going to Scotland full of confidence while Rangers are also in confident mood having seen off a more difficult opponent on paper, Borussia Dortmund in the playoff.
"I think it will be a difficult game. Rangers is a good team with good individual players who can win the game for them, " Omoijuanfo said to allnigeriasoccer.com.
"They managed to beat Borussia Dortmund in the previous round which shows how good they are.
"I always believe that we can win no matter the opponents. In football anything can happen but obviously we have to be at our best to manage that."
On Morelos, Omoijuanfo said : "A striker like him you always have to keep an extra eye on. But mainly we try to focus on ourselves and what we can do to get the best result possible".
Omoijuanfo has picked up where he left off in 2021 with four goals in his first six appearances for Red Star Belgrade.
