Blackburn Rovers U18 star Duru on target against former club Manchester United
Published: April 26, 2022
Blackburn Rovers held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw in an U18 Premier League match on Tuesday evening, with two teenagers of Nigerian descent scoring their first career goals in the division.
Manchester United's England U17 international Habeeb Ogunneye and Blackburn Rovers fullback Leonard Duru started for their respective teams, while Red Devils midfielder Maxi Oyedele wasn't included in the matchday squad.
United took the lead when a cross from Ogunneye somehow ended up beating the Rovers goalkeeper.
It was the fullback's first competitive goal for Manchester United U18s after ten appearances in all competitions.
Ogunneye was in the Manchester United squad that participated in the recently concluded MLS Generation Cup U17.
Duru tied the game with an effort from close range in the 18th minute and would be delighted to score against his former employers.
Manchester-born Duru was on the books of Manchester United before signing schoolboy forms with Rovers.
In the second half, Vitek's own goal was cancelled out by Omari Forson, who found the bottom corner from the spot.
