Jack Wilshere to coach three players of Nigerian descent at Arsenal U18s in 2022-2023
Published: July 08, 2022Jack Wilshere is reportedly set to be appointed the new coach of Arsenal U18s ahead of the 2022-2023 season.
The Athletic UK (subscription required) reported this afternoon that the Gunners are set to name Wilshere as their new U18s head coach following his retirement from professional football.
A former England international, Wilshere announced today that he was hanging up his boots for good at just thirty years of age.
A product of the renowned Hale End Academy, the midfielder was on the books of Arsenal for seventeen years before he was released in 2018.
Wilshere will be coaching three youngsters of Nigerian descent at Arsenal U18s in the forthcoming season.
Goalkeeper Brian Okonkwo and Danish-Nigerian midfielder Chido Obi have signed scholarship deals with Arsenal and have been promoted to the U18 side with effect from July 1.
Young professional Henry Timi Davies, 17, remains age eligible to feature for Arsenal U18s and will be hoping to get more chances under Wilshere having made only one appearance in the U18 Premier League in his first full season with the north London club.
Wilshere worked with the striker for a portion of last season while undertaking his coaching badges.
