Rangers agree deal to sign Liverpool defender as replacement for Ajax-bound Bassey

Glasgow Rangers have agreed a deal to sign Ben Davies from Premier League giants Liverpool.

According to Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, the Light Blues are close to announcing the capture of the Preston North End Academy product.

He added that an agreement is already in place and Liverpool will pocket four million pounds transfer fee.

Davies is a direct replacement for Calvin Bassey as he is capable of playing as a left-back and in central defence just as the Nigeria international.

Rangers are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements with the sale of Bassey to Ajax Amsterdam while Leon Balogun's contract was not renewed at the end of last season.

The 22-year-old is already in Amsterdam for a routine medical examination ahead of his unveiling in the coming days.

Bassey departs Rangers after 65 appearances as a professional including fifty in 2021-2022.

On the international stage, the Leicester City-reared defender has started the last five matches played by the Super Eagles.
