What number will Chukwuemeka wear? Chelsea confirm squad numbers for 2022-23 season
Published: August 04, 2022
Through their official website, Premier League giants Chelsea have confirmed their squad numbers for the 2022-2023 season.
England U19 international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka was officially unveiled as a player of Chelsea on Thursday, joining the Blues from Aston Villa on a six-year contract until June 30, 2028, and trained for the first time with his new teammates at Cobham today.
The Anglo-Austrian-Nigerian midfielder has been assigned the number 30 jersey for the upcoming campaign.
The number 30 was worn by former Brazil international David Luiz in his second stint at Stamford Bridge, from 2016-2019.
Other players who have sported the number 30 at Chelsea include Michy Batshuayi, Yossi Benayoun, Rhys Taylor, Tiago Mendes, Jesper Grönkjaer , Émerson Thome, Luca Percassi, Frode Grodas and Nick Colgan.
It is the first time Chukwuemeka has been handed the number 30 jersey in his club career, having worn the number 60 when he made his senior debut against Tottenham Hotspur in May 2021, before he was given the number 33 in his last season at Aston Villa.
Chelsea begin the new Premier League season with a trip to Goodison Park, where they battle Alex Iwobi's Everton on Saturday, August 6.
