Premier League 2 : Two Nigerians on target for Arsenal in 4-1 win against Chelsea
Published: August 20, 2022
Arsenal maintained their 100 percent start to the new Premier League 2 Division 1 season after a 4-1 rout of Chelsea in a London derby staged at Meadow Park on Saturday afternoon.
For the third game in a row, Gunners development squad coach Mehmet Ali named Zach Awe, Miguel Azeez and James Olayinka in his starting lineup, while winger Nathan Butler-Oyedeji started on the bench.
Just before the half-hour mark, in-form midfielder Olayinka broke the deadlock with a fantastic strike - his second goal in back-to-back games after having gone almost two years without finding the net in the Premier League 2.
After Khayon Edwards doubled the advantage, Chelsea pulled one back through Charlie Webster in the 43rd minute.
Arsenal had to wait until the 79th minute before they got the third goal they were looking for and it came from the boots of Charles Sagoe.
On as a substitute in the 81st minute, Butler-Oyedeji made the points safe when he scored Arsenal's fourth goal in the first minute of second half stoppage time.
With nine points from three matches, Arsenal are topping the Premier League 2 table ahead of their trip to Brighton & Hove on Friday, August 26.
