Everton boss reveals what impressed him about Iwobi's display vs Nottingham Forest
Published: August 20, 2022
Alex Iwobi was one of the players singled out for praise by manager Frank Lampard after Everton's hard-fought 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
In what was a frantic final ten minutes, the Toffees had to come from behind to earn a point at Goodison Park, their first in the new season after losses to Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Brennan Johnson, Nottingham Forest's top scorer last season with nineteen in all competitions, netted his first ever Premier League goal in the 81st minute but Everton grabbed a late equalising goal through Demarai Gray.
Making his one hundredth appearance in an Everton shirt, Iwobi partnered Tom Davies in the center of midfield.
Lampard praised the performance of the Hale End Academy product against the Reds and highlighted four things the Nigeria national teamer did during the game that impressed him.
In quotes relayed by Everton's official website, Lampard stated : "I thought Alex Iwobi was fantastic. Receiving it, controlling it and breaking through lines and passing well.
"The movements of the back three and the angles of trying to play through, especially in the early parts of the game, were really good."
Iwobi could have won it for Everton in stoppage time but his effort narrowly went over the crossbar.
