Official : Released Rangers defender Balogun becomes QPR's sixth summer signing
Published: August 26, 2022Through their official website, Queens Park Rangers have announced the capture of Nigeria international Leon Balogun, the club's sixth signing of the summer transfer window.
The German-born centre-back joins the Londoners on a free transfer following his release by Glasgow Rangers in the off season.
Balogun has put pen to paper on a one-year contract that will keep him at the Loftus Road Stadium until the end of the current season.
The 34-year-old previously worked with Mick Beale, the head coach of Queens Park Rangers, and he's excited to be reuniting with one of his former coaches at Glasgow Rangers.
Speaking to the official website of Queens Park Rangers after the deal was confirmed, Balogun said : "It is a big relief to know I can get back to action and I am looking forward to it.
"We have been speaking for some weeks so I am happy we got it done.
"The manager is one of the main factors for me. When he left Rangers I messaged him and said in terms of a football brain he is one of the best I have worked with."
Balogun has made a return to England, having previously worn the colours of Brighton & Hove in the Premier League and Wigan Athletic in the Championship.
Apart from the aforementioned teams, he has also turned out for German clubs Türkiyemspor Berlin, Hannover 96, Werder Bremen, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Darmstadt 98 and Mainz 05 in his senior career.
