Agent reveals why Super Eagles defender's proposed moves to MLS, Serie A fell through
Published: April 26, 2024
Super Eagles defender Olisa Ndah has had his dreams of playing abroad put on hold due to persistent injuries, according to his agent Mike Makaab.
Ndah, a key player for Orlando Pirates, has attracted interests from clubs in Serie A and MLS in recent times.
However, his progress has been hampered by injuries that coincided with these transfer interests.
The talented defender has enjoyed good spells of form with Orlando Pirates, but these have been unfortunately cut short by injuries.
The former Akwa United man's injury woes have been a recurring theme throughout his career, with the 26-year-old defender often finding himself sidelined for extended periods.
"He is very unfortunate. Every time Olisa seems to find his best footing, he ends up with these niggling injuries," Makaan revealed to Soccer Laduma.
"Thank God (they are) not serious, but they are disruptive. They disrupt your rhythm as a footballer.
"Let me tell you: When Olisa has been playing and consistently doing well, we've had real interest from clubs outside our borders."
The Prosport Global agency licensed partner went on to confirm that there was also interest from Belgium aside the MLS and Serie A.
He emphasized that the Nigerian international still has an opportunity to showcase his abilities, given that he has a contract with Orlando Pirates for another two years.
"This is not just talk. There was interest from the Italian Serie A. There was interest from the MLS. There was interest from Belgium. So, there's been interest in him.
"Sadly, he has not found this consistent run of games where he has been able to show what he did when he first came here to South Africa.
"But, like all footballers, you go through a period of all these unfortunate things. God willing, everything will settle and soon we will see the best of Olisa. He still has another two years left on this contract."
For now, Ndah will continue to ply his trade with Orlando Pirates, with his agent working behind the scenes to secure a new deal or revive interest from abroad.
However, it is clear that Ndah needs to prioritize his fitness and put his injury troubles behind him if he hopes to realize his dream of playing in one of the world's top leagues.
It remains to be seen if Ndah can stay fit and healthy in order to fulfill his ambitions of playing abroad.
