Chelsea looking to offload 33-cap international of Nigerian descent
Published: August 27, 2022
One of Chelsea's objectives before the close of the summer transfer window is to end their association with cap-tied England international of Nigerian descent Ross Barkley.
According to the online edition of The Sun UK, Chelsea are weighing up offering the midfielder a significant pay off to offload him and force a transfer exit.
With the expected signing of Anthony Gordon from Everton, the Blues hierarchy feel that Barkley should be moved on.
The 33-cap England international has entered the last one year of his contract with Chelsea and reportedly earns 200,000 pounds a week.
Barkley has not yet been assigned a squad number at Chelsea for the 2022-2023 campaign - an indication that he is not in the plans of manager Thomas Tuchel despite traveling with the first team for their pre-season tour to the United States.
The Everton academy product has been left out of Chelsea's matchday squad for their first four matches of the new Premier League season.
He managed fourteen appearances in all competitions in 2021-2022, scoring one goal.
Barkley was eligible to represent the Super Eagles through his Nigerian father before becoming cap-tied to his country of birth.
