Ronaldo and Osimhen rumours : Ten Hag suggests Man Utd don't need to sign another striker
Published: August 28, 2022Dutch football tactician Erik Ten Hag has suggested that Manchester United did not need to sign another striker before the close of the summer transfer window amid rumours linking Napoli star Victor Osimhen with a move to Old Trafford.
There was speculation in the Italian media that Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo would be part of a swap deal that would see the Nigeria international move in the opposite direction.
Excluding the qualifying rounds, Ronaldo is the UEFA Champions League all-time top scorer with 140 goals, fifteen more than his main rival Lionel Messi.
The Portugal legend is aware that PSG's Messi can close the gap and is desperate to play in the Champions League again this season, which Manchester United cannot offer him.
Osimhen's agent Roberto Calenda and Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti have made it clear that no negotiations have taken place over a potential transfer of the Nigeria international to Manchester United.
Speaking after Saturday's 1-0 win at Southampton, Ten Hag maintained his stance that Ronaldo is not for sale.
When asked if he would be satisfied should United not add to add to their forwards this week, Ten Hag was quoted as saying by Sky Sports UK : "We have Cristiano, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford so we are okay [for strikers]."
Osimhen has three years left on his contract with Napoli, whom he joined from Lille for a club record fee of 70 million euros.
