Pompey boss sings the praises of Arsenal's Anglo-Nigerian CM, reveals one area he can improve
Published: August 30, 2022Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley spoke very highly of Arsenal central midfielder Miguel Azeez when he was interviewed by BBC Radio Solent Sport's Dan George on Monday, but highlighted one area where the Anglo-Nigerian can improve.
The Hale End Academy product worked with Cowley during a loan spell at Pompey in the first half of last season, playing ten games with the former Concord Rangers midfielder in the dugout before he was recalled in January 2022.
Azeez's quality when in possession of the ball and game understanding were outstanding during his time at Portsmouth but the Hale Ender struggled against the ball.
"Miguel is an outstanding talent particularly in possession and very good game understanding, technically very competent and tactically very intelligent," Cowley stated.
"I think he still has a lot of work to do against the ball and he's working really hard in that aspect of his game."

On the pitch, Miguel's loan spell at Pompey may not have been a success considering that he wasn't really getting games as he expected to, so much so that he was recalled by his parent club.
Cowley refused to dwell on that and spoke about the positives from the midfielder's time at Fratton Park, stressing that he returned to Arsenal a better player .
"He had some good moments here and I actually think it was a really good loan for him because I think he would have learned loads because I think he went to Arsenal not just a better player but as a better person, and I'd like to think that we contributed towards that".
To date, Azeez, 19, has received ten call-ups for Arsenal's first team matches and made his professional debut against Dundalk in a Europa League match back in December 2020.
