Ikpeba backs Tottenham to win silverware, tips Kane to break Shearer's EPL record

Former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba has expressed belief that Tottenham Hotspur can win silverware in the 2022/2023 season with manager Antonio Conte in charge of the North London side.

Spurs have won three and drawn one of their four league games so far with 10 points on the log.

Speaking on Supersport's Monday Night Football monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, the 'Prince of Monaco' reflected on the chances of Spurs breaking their title jinx having not won a trophy since the League Cup in 2008.

"The Italians don't need to play beautiful football, it's all about winning games and that's what he's doing," Ikpeba asserted.

"Offensively, they have what it takes to punish any team. My only worry is in the middle of the park and the defence.

"They have one of the best goalkeepers in world football in Hugo Lloris so Harry Kane can't stop scoring.

"I think this is his fourth goal, so winning title this season is possible. Every team has a chance to win titles this season, it's just the beginning of the season.

"Can they do it, can they have the momentum, can they have the consistency to do it?"

On the attacking options available to Conte, Ikpeba said the North London side have choices to deliver the goals.

"Conte is now spoilt with choices upfront. If Son Heung-min is not happy, Richarlison came on in the second half - they have what it takes to punish teams. The only problem I have with this Spurs side is consistency.

Speaking on the competition for starting places and pecking orders following the acquisition of Brazilian forward, Richarlison, Ikpeba insists that Harry Kane is still the first choice of the North London side and says the England captain has the wherewithal to break the Premier League goal scoring record of the legendary Alan Shearer.

"Kane is now in his late 20s. He still has many years to play football in the English Premier League. With 187 goals and Alan Shearer 260 goals, he can get to those numbers."

On Son's performances and reaction on his playing time this season, Ikpeba said the following:

"He's been subbed in nearly every game. In the games that Kane did not play well, he has not been subbed. For Conte, his key striker is Kane and the other players have to fight for positions. That's what the manager has decided to do.

"And Son now notices that. For a player who did so well last season, he now understands that if 'I don't score, I will be taken out' - that's how players react. Harry Kane is the marksman of this team," Ikpeba concluded.

Spurs next game is a midweek fixture against West Ham United.
