Nigeria-eligible CM named in Chelsea's provisional matchday squad v Dinamo Zagreb
Published: September 05, 2022
Nigeria-eligible central midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka has been named in Chelsea's provisional matchday squad for their UEFA Champions League group stage opener.
According to Chelsea's official website, Chukwuemeka and 22 others have traveled to Zagreb ahead of their UEFA Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday evening.
Barring an injury in the final training session and pre-match warm-up, the England U19 international will be named in the matchday squad as up to twelve substitutes are allowed to be on the bench.
Since joining Chelsea in August 2022, the Anglo-Nigerian youngster hasn't made his debut for the first team.
He has made the matchday squad on two occasions, playing the role of an unused substitute in both games.
Chukwuemeka's appearances for Chelsea have only come in the Premier League 2 with the U21s.
He will be hoping to get some minutes when Chelsea face Dinamo Zagreb at the Stadion Maksimir tomorrow evening.
Chelsea are in group E alongside AC Milan, Red Bull Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb.
The Blues have won two UEFA Champions League titles since their inception, in 2012 and 2021.
During the last campaign, Thomas Tuchel's men were eliminated by eventual champions Real Madrid in the quarter finals.
