Two Premier League clubs interested in Chelsea's contract rebel of African descent
Published: September 12, 2022At least two Premier League clubs are reportedly monitoring the situation of France international of Malian descent N'Golo Kante.
According to The Athletic UK (subscription required), multiple clubs including two from the Premier League are interested in signing the 2018 World Cup winner should he leave Chelsea at the end of the season.
Kante's current contract with The Blues runs out on June 30, 2023 and negotiations about an extension are stalling.
The defensive midfielder rejected a verbal offer from Chelsea's higher-ups to extend his stay because he had a longer term in mind than two years plus an option.
Chelsea are reluctant to offer Kante a longer term due to his recent injury record and age.
So far this season, the 31-year-old has missed six of the eight matches played by Chelsea in all competitions due to muscular problems.
Considered one of the best holding midfielders in the world, Kante joined Chelsea in the summer of 2016 and has gone on to make 262 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals.
He has won the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup as a Chelsea player.
