Plzen's Bassey plays final 32 minutes as Bayern set record of 31 CL group games without defeat
Published: October 04, 2022Bayern Munich set a Champions League record by extending its unbeaten run in the group stage to thirty one games after thrashing Viktoria Plzen 5-0 on Tuesday evening.
Fortune Bassey, a Nigerian striker signed from Ferencváros in the summer transfer window, played the final 32 minutes for the Czech champions in the matchday three clash at Fußball Arena München.
Bayern were brutal in the opening 21 minutes as three well taken goals from Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Sadio Mane put the visitors to the sword,
Mane fired home emphatically for Bayern's fourth goal four minutes into the second half and Choupo-Moting slotted home to add further gloss to the scoreline in the 59th minute.
Six minutes from time, Bassey had Viktoria Plzen's best chance of the game to get on the scoresheet but the 23-year-old missed the target.
Bassey netted twice in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League, against Tobol Kostanay while wearing the colours of Ferencváros.
After heavy losses to Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Inter Milan, Viktoria Plzen are rock bottom of the Champions League Group C standings.
Bayern and Viktoria Plzen meet again in eight days time at the Doosan Aréna (Plzeň).
