Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is sweating on the fitness of German-Nigerian central defender Moritz Jenz ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.
The Lorient loanee was a shock omission from the matchday squad as the Hoops dug deep to earn a 2-1 win over St Johnstone in a Premiership game on Saturday afternoon,
Jenz had made five consecutive starts in all competitions before the trip to St Johnston, including three in the Champions League.
Postecoglou explained that Jenz was unavailable for selection despite traveling with the squad to Perth due to illness but refused to put a timeframe on when the defender will start training again with Celtic.
Asked to thrown light on the absence of Jenz and Greg Taylor, the Australian coach was quoted as saying by Football Scotland : "Jenz woke up ill this morning. Greg is fine and we’ve just gave him a rest because he’s had a lot of games and I’m keen to give Bernabei a run."
The fit-again Cameron Carter-Vickers was partnered in central defence by Stephen Welsh against St Johnstone.
